Hair Care: Dyes

These days more and more girls are coloring their hair. Before getting work done on your hair, it is important to know all of the facts. So let's get started!
First of all, not all hair dyes are permanent. Semi-permanent and demi-permanent dyes do exist and wash out eventually. Semi-permanent dyes last for about 10 shampoos, and demi-permanent dyes last for a little longer. These dyes can also be used to help gradually change back to your original hair color if you want. You can have your hair dyed at a salon or at home. If you decide to dye your hair at home, make sure that you read the box and do an allergy test. These tests are quick and easy and help you avoid a painful rash on your scalp. All you have to do is rub a little product inside your elbow or behind your ear. Wait for two days to make sure there is no irritation. Irritation can be caused by peroxide. Peroxide-free dyes are a good option if you show a reaction.
Strong dyes and overuse can cause hair to become brittle, so make sure to follow the directions(if using at home) and avoid too many highlights or lightening, especially if you have very thin hair. Dyes don't cause hair loss or premature grays, so don't worry about that. Gray hair is hereditary. When using dyes, make sure to use special shampoos to preserve color for longer.
Coloring your hair is a big decision and you should not do it without your parents consent if you are under 18 years old.

Does the Food You Eat Affect Your Skin?

Acne is a common problem amongst teens and almost everybody has to deal with it from time to time. Special face washes and lotions can help to clear up breakouts, but many people wonder if there is a way to prevent acne before it happens.

It has long been suspected diet can affect acne. Although many people believe this to be a myth, new studies are showing that there is some truth to this old rumor. When foods are processed they often lose their nutritional value which makes them unhealthy. These foods include, bread, pizza, chocolate, burgers, french fries, and other highly processed foods can cause breakouts. Dairy products like milk and cheese can also cause acne for some people. Hormones found in milk(especially skim milk) tell your body to produce more oil. This oil clogs up your pores and causes pimples. So what foods are good for your skin?
A wholesome diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains can help keep skin clear and beautiful. Remember to consume enough dairy, as well. Almond milk can be a good alternative if regular milk causes problems for you. At the end of the day, it is impossible to avoid pimples completely, but a well balanced diet can help to minimize breakouts and keep skin clear.

Acetone vs. Non-acetone Nail Polish Remover

Most of us have painted our nails before and love creating colorful patterns and designs. Eventually, however, the old nail polish has to go. There are many different types of nail polish removers to choose from, but the two basic types are acetone and non acetone.
Acetone nail polish removers are stronger and more effective than other removers. They are especially useful when removing dark or glitter polishes. On the other hand, acetone dries out nails and the surrounding skin. Some people use pure acetone on their nails, but this is believed to cause yellowing and weakening of nails and is not recommended. Non acetone removers do not work as well and can take a long time. They can also dry out your nails but aren't as harsh as acetone. Most non acetone nail polish removers add in moisturizing ingredients but this means that the remover is less effective.
In the end, it is really a up to you which kind of remover you like best. You may prefer acetone removers if you use lots of dark colors and glitter, or you might like non acetone removers if you use light colors or do not paint your nails often.

Product Review: Eos Lip Balm

One of the most popular products to hit the lip balm market this year was Eos. The tasty flavors and cool egg shape helped the product skyrocket. But is it really good for your lips?

Ingredients:

  • Olive Fruit Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Jojoba Seed Oil help heal and moisturize chapped lips
  • Blueberry, Strawberry, and Peach Extract add flavor

So how does Eos compare with Rose Salve No. 012?

Personally, I find both products are reliable and would recommend using whichever one you choose.
