Does the Food You Eat Affect Your Skin?

Acne is a common problem amongst teens and almost everybody has to deal with it from time to time. Special face washes and lotions can help to clear up breakouts, but many people wonder if there is a way to prevent acne before it happens.

It has long been suspected diet can affect acne. Although many people believe this to be a myth, new studies are showing that there is some truth to this old rumor. When foods are processed they often lose their nutritional value which makes them unhealthy. These foods include, bread, pizza, chocolate, burgers, french fries, and other highly processed foods can cause breakouts. Dairy products like milk and cheese can also cause acne for some people. Hormones found in milk(especially skim milk) tell your body to produce more oil. This oil clogs up your pores and causes pimples. So what foods are good for your skin?
A wholesome diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains can help keep skin clear and beautiful. Remember to consume enough dairy, as well. Almond milk can be a good alternative if regular milk causes problems for you. At the end of the day, it is impossible to avoid pimples completely, but a well balanced diet can help to minimize breakouts and keep skin clear.
