How To Protect Yourself From the Sun

Hello everybody! As you know, summer is on the way! The days are getting warmer and people are finding more and more reasons to spend some time outside. Whether you're visiting the beach or just hanging out in your own backyard, its important to keep your skin healthy and safe. Just because you don't get sunburned easily doesn't mean you're immune to ultraviolet radiation, or UV.  Exposure to these rays commonly result in sun spots and wrinkles, but the are also known to cause skin cancer. Nobody wants that! Luckily, there are ways to arm yourself against the sun's damaging effects.

  • Sunblock: Sunblock comes in a variety of forms, from sprays to creams to "sticks"(like lip balm). It also varies in effectiveness. Higher SPFs offer better protection than lower SPFs. Most doctors recommend choosing a sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher. Sunblock should be used daily especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. It is also beneficial to use sunblock on your face in winter because snow reflects UV rays. You can find sunblocks that double as lotions or even makeup products such as lip balm.
  • Hats: The best way to protect against UV rays is to wear long pants and sleeves. But this can be hard when its over 90 degrees outside. This is why its a good idea to wear a hat. Stylish sun hats are good for days spend by the poolside, and baseball caps can be worn almost anytime. Use hats to be creative with fashion while protecting your skin.
  • Sunglasses: UV rays are also damaging to your eyes, so sunglasses can come in handy. Not to mention how useful they are when it comes to driving or playing sports in sunny conditions. So if you want to see better and keep your eyes safe, invest in some sunglasses.
Well, that's it for now. Have fun and enjoy the warm weather! - M.A.C.
